The tradition of the wedding cake dates back to Ancient Rome, when marriage ceremonies would end with a cake being broken over the bride’s head for luck and fertility. Then, the new husband and wife would share the cake as one of their first acts as a married couple. *

Of course, in Ancient Rome their “cakes” looked more like scones or biscuits, and they were not covered in frosting, flowers, and cake toppers like they are today. But still, the tradition lives on. Let’s look at four Wedding Cake Trends for 2023.

1. Minimalist with Greenery Accents

Tried and true, the classic white frosted cake with sprigs of greenery is making its return in 2023. Make it your own by requesting different styles of frosting (think thin layers, piped edges, or smooth fondant) or by matching the greenery with the rest of the floral decor.

2. Metallics

A fun way to show your individuality in your cake is to add some metallics! Gold leaf makes a perfect touch and can add just the right amount of glam to your big day. Complement it with a gold cake stand or cake topper!

3. Drip Frosting

This cake trend has been around for a while now, and it is finally making its way to the wedding world. Drip frosting is a fun and creative way to add more flavor and texture to your cake. The drips can be made with frosting, or you can add more flavors by dripping caramel or ganache down the cake. No matter how you drip it, these cakes are sure to make a statement.

Who says cakes need to be three-tiered, over-the-top, spectacles? A mini cake can have the same wow-factor with half the price tag! Serving your cake to all your guests?
