If you’re planning a wedding in Arizona, you can take advantage of the beautiful scenery through a backyard wedding. Backyard weddings can be fun and lovely. Plus, they can feel more intimate and relaxing. Planning a backyard wedding means taking care of all the little details, though the right rental company can help make it easier. We’ve compiled a list of tips for planning the perfect backyard wedding, so you can be prepared!
Plan for weather
Planning for the weather means thinking about the season when picking a date. You definitely want to avoid holding your wedding outdoors during the summer. It gets too hot for guests! We recommend picking a spring or fall date, so you can take advantage of the cooler temperature in the late afternoon and early evening. Just don’t forget the chilly desert weather in the evening! If you choose to plan a backyard wedding for the fall or winter, you’ll need heaters for when the sun goes down.
You always want to make sure your guests are comfortable. If it’s hot outside, shade, cold water, and fans can go a long way. If it’s cold, those heaters and small throws are a great idea. You can even give away blankets for your favors!
When it comes to backyard weddings, you’ll also need a backup plan. You never know what kind of weather you’ll wake up to on the day of! Have an indoor location on standby just in case you need to move the ceremony or reception indoors.
Make sure you have the backyard wedding essentials
This means all the big stuff that you’ll need. These essentials include tables, seating, and a dance floor. Dancing in the grass in heels is no fun! We have a 16’x16’ dance floor that’s perfect for weddings with under 150 guests. It can be set up on level grass or a paved surface.
You’ll need lighting too, and lighting is what really makes a wedding stand out! This is particularly important for nighttime. You don’t want your guests to be fumbling around in the dark. Our string lighting is strung and set up by our team of lighting professionals to fit your desired layout. A complimentary lighting consultation prior to the event is also included.
Don’t forget the backyard wedding necessities
First and foremost, when you plan a backyard wedding, you need power. You might be able to run some of your needs (like your DJ or lighting) through your house, but you should always have a backup plan. Check what kind of power you’ll need and look into getting a generator, so you don’t blow a fuse.
Additionally, make sure you have enough restrooms available. Odds are, you don’t want so many people traipsing through the house. You can rent a few restrooms (including really nice ones) for your guests to use. Keep in mind that you don’t want a long line either! So, having a few extra on-site is a huge plus.
Not to mention, you’ll need trash cans! People often forget to get enough trash cans. Buy or rent a good number of both trash cans and recycling bins so people are able to find them and dispose of their garbage easily.
Take care of the details
You don’t want to surprise your neighbors with your backyard wedding. Be sure to let them know in advance and address any concerns they might have. You’ll also need to factor in parking. Check if your neighborhood has rules for this. You might need to hire a valet service or find a nearby parking lot. Finally, remember to landscape! Cut the grass a couple of days before and make sure the ground is level. You’ll need a level surface for the dancefloor, tables, and chairs.
Get creative with decor
One important detail you might not think about is an arch for your ceremony. Even if you’re planning a backyard wedding, you need a designated ceremony space. Our Wood Beam Arch and Classic Wood Arch are both perfect for this.
Especially if you’re planning a rustic wedding, another great touch is a pallet wall backdrop! You can get creative with the decor that goes along with it and really bring a lot of personality to your wedding.
If you’re looking for another perfect touch, you can add a s’mores bar or beverage bar. Everyone loves s’mores, from kids to grandparents! Our s’mores cart makes it easy to keep guests entertained and create a fun atmosphere. Our cart is propane-powered and easy to use. Not to mention, it looks great when it gets dark out. Meanwhile, our beverage bar makes a fun serving station for whatever you’re looking to serve and has tons of features, like a syrup bottle holder. You can really get creative with your beverage service.
One common misconception about backyard weddings it that they’re cheaper than weddings at a regular venue. Luckily, we’ve put together a package to help make things easier and more affordable. Our Backyard Wedding Bundle is designed to make your backyard wedding planning a piece of cake. Our Classic Farm Tables are 3′x8′ and come with four 3.5′ benches or 8 fruitwood chairs to seat 8 guests per set.
